SOUTH GATE AZTECS YOUTH FOOTBALL & CHEER

FOOTBALL

THE SOUTH GATE AZTEC YOUTH FOOTBALL PROGRAM

Organized in 1989, established in 1990, the South Gate Youth Football Program began with a mission to strive for excellence in all that we do...from its leadership, to the coaches and the players and cheerleaders...for 31 years ours has been a journey of representing the South Gate community and of developing student-athletes through hard work, commitment & dedication, teamwork & sportsmanship and of course, for the love of this great sport! We play by the rules, we don't teach or preach,"winning at all costs" and through it all we stay committed to our goal in the development of a youth sport program that provides the fundamental nurturing experiences that build a strong foundation for future success in sports and in life!

UPDATE: FEB-21-2018: We joined ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE, a Pop Warner Program serving Orange and L.A. Counties since 1986. A hard decision to leave OCJAAF (Orange County Jr. All American Football) after 28 years. But due to declining chapter participation within OCJAAF and no cheer teams; we had to consider the "best" move for our program and for our teams so that we can continue to provide them ample opportunities in competition for football and cheer. Although our existing football teams within OCJAAF are much heavier as compared to Pop Warner, our current head coaches agreed to this move and we would adjust and do what was needed to be done in order to field competitive teams. Also, Pop Warner includes the "older-lighter" age group in most of their divisions. The key focus in Pop Warner is: "KIDS COMPETE WITH KIDS OF SIMILAR AGE AND SIZE."

THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW, 2020!...
The Pop Warner Organization adopted the "Age Only" Tackle Football Program for 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U, in addition to their regular "age & weight" division teams: Tiny Mite, Mitey Mite, Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee and Jr. Varsity. This was a BIG change for the Pop Warner culture having come from a traditional age & weighted program. But, these are the times and youth football has slowly become more progressive...allowing unlimited weight players on any team. Of course, we want to still keep in mind the safety of all our players and will build teams according to the best opportunity for the player to learn and play within their physical capabilities.
