ABOUT THE AZTECS YOUTH FOOTBALL PROGRAM...
The South Gate Youth Football (and Cheer) organization is a "family-oriented" program here in the city of South Gate for the past 37 years. Originally organized and brought back into the city by the former and late City Councilman/Mayor, HENRY C. GONZALEZ. In 2024, we joined the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EAST YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE of AAU (SCEYFL-AAU). We are a NON-PROFIT youth sport organization serving the South Gate community since 1990. We are also an "ALL VOLUNTEER-RUN" organization comprised of an "Executive Council" (Executive Board of Directors) along with our "Team Leadership" of Head Coaches and Team Athletic Directors (AD).
2026 SEASON UPDATE:
On January 20, 2026, the South Gate Youth Football & Cheer Organization's Executive Board held a special meeting to discuss the upcoming season as a consequense of recent issues with the City of South Gate. PLEASE REVIEW THIS PUBLIC NOTICE. As a result of the city's inability to provide for our facility permits for practices and games due to their $9.5M deficit, we had to make the difficult decision to postopone our football season in 2026. However, our Cheer Program will continue in their pursuit of their outside competition season, which will begin July 9, 2026.
In the meantime, our goal is to regroup and return to football in 2027. Head Football Coach Candidates will be sought in the meantime, with an expected start of the Football Academy in November 2026. If you would like to complete and submit an application please see the link below...

In 2026, the SOUTH GATE AZTECS YOUTH FOOTBALL & CHEER organization has proudly represented the South Gate community for the past 37 years! We are comprised of strong adult volunteers committed to KIDS FIRST!
CHANGE IS COMING as we seek out new volunteers to lead our young football & cheer teams in 2026. 2025 was CHALLENGING for the organization through no fault of our own. Please take the time to review our Annual Highlights Report to the City of South Gate. Our Pre-Season Football "conditioning & training academy" is scheduled to begin in November, 2026 (dates, location & time TBA). We also seek adult-volunteers to fill important team staff and supporting roles to the Head Coach as we plan our COMEBACK SEASON OF FOOTBALL IN 2027!
The South Gate Aztecs Youth Football & Cheer organization will continue to be a leading youth program due to the commitment of our core leadership and dedication to keep our program moving forward and setting the standard for well-organized, structured and strong leadership.
Head coaches will come and go and that has nothing to do with the organization or its commitment to keep the program moving forward. Our teams flourish because they have a strong base to build upon and that is due to the hard work of its dedicated core leaders. We stand by those committed to upholding our standards and our philosophy established by our founding father, the former and late South Gate Mayor/Councilman, Henry C. Gonzalez.
